Betacoronavirus

Betacoronavirus (β-CoV veya beta-CoV), Nidovirales takımından Coronaviridae familyasının Orthocoronavirinae alt familyasında yer alan 4 koronavirüs cinsinden biri. Betakoronavirüsler, zoonotik kökenli, zarflı, pozitif anlamlı, tek sarmallı RNA virüsleridir. Betacoronavirus cinsi dört adet farklı viral soydan oluşur. Eski literatürde, bu cins grup 2 koronavirüsler olarak da bilinir.

İnsanlarda tıbbi öneme sahip beta-CoV'ler olan OC43 ve HKU1 A soyundan, SARS CoV ve SARS CoV-2 B soyundan,[1] MERS CoV ise C soyundan gelmektedir. MERS-CoV, soy C'ye ait ve insanları enfekte ettiği bilinen ilk betakoronavirüstür.[2][3]
