Joseph Ruttenberg

Joseph Ruttenberg (d. 4 Temmuz 1889 - ö. 1 Mayıs 1983), Rusya doğumlu Amerikalı görüntü yönetmeni ve foto muhabiri.

Başarılı bir sinema geçmişine sahip olan Ruttenberg, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer için çalıştığı dönemde birçok önemli yapımda yer aldı. On kez En İyi Sinematografi Akademi Ödülü'ne aday gösterilirken, bu ödüle The Great Waltz (1938), Mrs. Miniver (1942), Somebody Up There Likes Me (1956) ve Gigi (1958) filmleriyle dört kez ulaştı.[1] Böylelikle Leon Shamroy ile birlikte Akademi tarihi boyunca bu ödülü en çok kazanan kişi unvanına sahip oldu. Ayrıca Brigadoon (1954) filmiyle de 12. Altın Küre Ödülleri'nde En İyi Sinematografi ödülünü renkli kategoride kazandı.

Hayatı

1889'da Sankt-Peterburg'da Yahudi bir ailenin çocuğu olarak doğdu. Dört yaşındayken ailesi ABD'ye göç etti ve Boston'a yerleşti.[1][2] Gençliğinde Boston American gazetesinde gazete satıcısı, muhabir, karanlık oda teknisyeni daha sonra ise foto muhabiri olarak çalıştı.[2] 1915'te gazeteyi bıraktı ve New York City'e giderek Fox Film'de görüntü yönetmeni olarak çalışmaya başladı. İki yıl sonra The Painted Madonna (1917) filmiyle sinema kariyeri başlamış oldu.

20'li yıllarda New York'ta çalışan Ruttenberg, ilk sesli filminde ünlü yönetmen D.W. Griffith'in son filmi olan The Struggle’da (1931) görev yaptı.[2] Ruttenberg 1933'te Hollywood'a gitmeye karar verdi ve uzun yıllar boyunca MGM için çalıştı. 1968'de aynı şirketten emekli oldu.

Joseph Ruttenberg 1 Mayıs 1983'te öldü.[1] Ünlü görüntü yönetmeni evli olup, bir kızı vardı.[1]
