Stauroteuthis

Stauroteuthis, kafadan bacaklılar yumuşakçası olan bir derin deniz ahtapot cinsidir. Bu, Stauroteuthidae familyasındaki tek cinstir ve bu cinste sadece iki tür tanımlanmıştır.

Bu organizmalar, her ne kadar suyun altından 4 km derinlikte görülmüş olsa da 700 m su derinliğinin altında ve genellikle yaklaşık 2 km su derinliğinde yaşarlar.[1] Radulaları yoktur.[1] Stauroteuthidler birkaç biyolüminesans ahtapottan biri olma özelliğini taşımaktadır.[2]

Türleri
  • Stauroteuthis gilchristi, sadece Güney Atlantik'teki iki bölgede bilinmektedir.[1][3]
  • Stauroteuthis syrtensis, Kuzey Atlantik'te yaygındır.[4]  S. syrtensis'in popülasyon büyüklüğü bilinmemektedir.[5]
