2003 yılında ABD Silahlı Kuvvetlerinin Irak'ı işgal etmesine karşı çıkmıştır. Ayrıca ABD topraklarında casusluk yaptıkları gerekçesiyle tutuklanan Küba Beşlisine destek vermiş[1],bu gruptan Gerardo Hérnandez Nordelo'yu hapiste ziyaret etmiştir.[2]
