Bellirli yıllar süresince bu kategoride verilen en yüksek ödül Oscar olmayıp "Özel Başarı Ödülü" olmuştur. Akademi kuralları bir Akademi Ödülü verilebilmesi için o kategoride belirli sayıda aday bulunmasını gerektirdiğinden yeterli sayıda nitelikli aday olmaması durumunda Oscar yerine Özel Başarı Ödülü verilmektedir.
