Leonard Eugene Dickson
Leonard Eugene Dickson (22 Ocak 1874 - 17 Ocak 1954), Amerikalı bir matematikçiydi. Soyut cebir, özellikle sonlu alanlar ve klasik gruplar teorisi alanındaki ilk Amerikalı araştırmacılardan biriydi ve aynı zamanda üç ciltlik bir sayılar teorisi tarihi kitabı ile hatırlanmaktadır.

Yaşamı
Dickson, 1874'te bankacı, tüccar ve emlak yatırımcısı bir babanın, ev hanımı bir annenin oğlu olarak Independence, Iowa'da dünyaya geldi. İleriki dönemde Cleburne'ye göçtüler ve Dickson orada büyüdü; kendisini bir Teksaslı olarak görüyordu. Gelecekte kendi matematik çalışmalarını teşfik edecek George Bruce Halsted ile tanışacağı Austin'deki Texas Üniversitesi'ne girdi. Dickson B.S. 1893'te ve M.S. 1894'te Halsted'in gözetiminde. Dickson ilk olarak Halsted'in kendi uzmanlık alanı olan geometride uzmanlaştı.[1]
