English Football League
English Football League (EFL), İngiltere ve Galler'den profesyonel futbol kulüplerinin katılımıyla organize edilen bir ligdir. 1888 yılında Football League adıyla kurulan lig, dünya futbolundaki en eski yarışmadır. Kuruluşundan, 1992 yılına kadar İngiltere'nin en üst seviye futbol ligi oldu. 1992 yılında 22 takımlı Premier League'in kurulmasıyla birlikte bu özelliğini yitirdi.

Premier Lig'in altında, EFL Championship, EFL League One ve EFL League Two adında üç organizasyon yer alır ve her bir bölümde 24'er takım mücadele eder (toplam 72 takım olmasına karşın, 2019-20 sezonunda, Bury'nin ihraç edilmesinin ardından League One'daki takım sayısı 23'e düştü).
Bu bölümler arasında yükselme ve küme düşme yarışmanın merkezi bir özelliğidir ve en iyi Championship kulüpleri Premier League'in en altında yer alan kulüplerle ve League Two'nun alt sırasındaki kulüpler de National League'in en iyi kulüpleriyle yer değiştirir. Öncelikle İngiliz kulüpleri için düzenlenen bir yarışma olmasına rağmen, günümüzde Cardiff City, Swansea City, Newport County ve daha önce ise Wrexham, Merthyr Town ve Aberdare Athletic gibi Galler merkezli kulüplerde yarışma da mücadele etmektedir.
Football League, 1983 ve 2016 yılları arasında bir isim sponsoruna sahipti. Sponsorlar yıllar içinde değiştikçe lig de çeşitli isimlerle tanındı.[1] 2016-17 sezonundan itibaren lig, Premier League'in uluslararası alanda "EPL" olarak tanınması gibi, isim sponsoru yerine English Football League (EFL) adıyla yeniden markalaştı.[2]
English Football League, lig müsabakalarının yönetim organının adıdır ve bu organ ayrıca EFL Cup ve EFL Trophy olmak üzere iki adet eleme kupası müsabakası da organize etmektedir. Football League'in operasyon merkezi Preston'da, ticari ofisi ise Londra'dadır.[3] Ticari ofis daha önce Lytham St Annes'ta bulunmaktaydı.[4]

Aşağıda, 2019-20 sezonunda mücadele eden Football League kulüpleri listelenmiştir. Bury FC 27 Ağustos 2019 tarihinde ligden ihraç edildi. 1888 yılından bu yana toplam 143 kulüp Football League'de mücadele etti. Başlangıçta, alt bölümlerdeki kulüpler, her yıl yeniden seçilmek üzere başvurmak zorunda kaldı ve diğer üyeler tarafından oylandı. Walsall, Football League'e en çok yeniden başvuru rekorunu elinde bulundurmaktadır. Eski English Football League kulüpleri, Premier League'in mevcut 20 üyesinin yanı sıra çeşitli küme düşen, çıkarılan veya feshedilen kulüpleri içerir.
